Glenys Hawken

Lymphoedema Therapist

I am committed to helping people improve their quality of life through the effects of lymph drainage, whether it's for relaxation, to address soft tissue injuries or dysfunctions, to assist with recovery from surgery, or to offer education, therapy, and support for managing lymphoedema.

My journey in healthcare began over 40 years ago as a Registered Nurse specialising in midwifery. When raising my family, I became interested in complementary therapies, which led me to study Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy in 2018. In 2020, I returned to nursing and became acutely aware of tissue oedema and its life-changing effects. This inspired me to train as a Dr. Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Decongestive Therapist (MLD & CDT) in 2022. Today, I work as a lymphoedema therapist. I combine my nursing experience with specialised lymphatic therapy skills to provide comprehensive care to my clients.

My goal is to empower and educate people about their illness or condition and to provide a high standard of care, tailored in consultation with you, to achieve the best possible outcome for your health and well-being.

I am a qualified Lymphoedema Therapist on a mission to improve people's quality of life through this powerful therapy. I like to have an initial phone consultation with all clients to establish their health concerns and treatment needs. This consult helps me to understand where you're at in your health journey. If necessary, I can then consult with your primary healthcare providers (with your permission) before beginning your treatment.

Treatment options include Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) - very light, rhythmic stretching movements applied to specific areas of the body to encourage lymph flow, quite different from a massage as the pressure used is much lighter - as well as Medical Lymph Taping, which involves applying specialised elastic tape to the skin in specific patterns to support lymphatic flow, and Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT), a comprehensive, evidence-based treatment approach for managing lymphoedema and related conditions, taking a two-pronged approach of Reduction and Maintenance to ensure long-term success.
